Basket of hope!
Did you know that women are at the heart of our lives and growth? My favorite thing is witnessing a woman empowered to take her rightful place and create magic.
As part of our ongoing commitment to uplift and empower refugee women, we are thrilled to announce the success of phase 1 of our 1-month empowerment circle. This phase focused on basket-making, and our dedicated women have already created nearly 50 beautiful baskets. This achievement is more than just a number—it's a testament to their resilience, creativity, and the power of empowerment.
A special thank you goes out to Emily, whose unwavering support has been instrumental in this journey. Her belief in the potential of these women has been a driving force behind their success.

Why Empowering Refugee Women Matters
Empowering refugee women, particularly single mothers and teenage mothers, goes beyond simply teaching them a skill; it’s about providing them with the tools to transform their lives. Here’s why this empowerment is so crucial:
Supporting Their Families: Many of these women are the primary caregivers for their families. By equipping them with skills like basket-making, we enable them to provide for their loved ones, ensuring they can meet basic needs and more.
Breaking the Cycle of Poverty: Empowerment is a pathway out of poverty. When women gain the ability to earn an income, they can break free from the constraints of poverty, paving the way for a brighter future for themselves and their children.
Fostering a Sense of Pride and Accomplishment: Creating something with their own hands, such as a basket, instills a deep sense of pride. This achievement boosts their self-esteem and confidence, helping them to recognize and realize their potential.
Basket of Hope?
Yes, when these women, representing 12 different nationalities in Nakivale, come together, they find a sense of community, support, and hope. Cutting the straps, weaving them, and turning each piece up and down represents their focus and aspiration to create a final basket that will be admired for its shape and colors. For these women, basket-making is more than just a craft—it’s a journey filled with hope and resilience.

Their hope extends beyond learning the skill; they aspire to become teachers and business owners. Shout out to Go Green Social Initiative for the beautiful impact it continues to create in Nakivale. Women are the heart and center of families—these are the women who have been abandoned by their husbands and families, seeking hope to survive and thrive. Bringing them together creates a safe environment not only for learning but also for healing each other.
As we move forward, we remain committed to supporting these incredible women on their journey toward self-sufficiency and empowerment. The baskets they create are not just products—they are symbols of hope, resilience, and the endless possibilities that come with empowerment.
