Latitia's Journey with Go Green Social Initiative
This testimony is a powerful reminder of the impact that your support has on the lives of those we serve: creating sustainable livelihoods and fostering a community where everyone can thrive.
Meet Latitia, a participant in Go Green Social Initiative’s handcraft training program in the Nakivale Refugee Settlement in Uganda.
My name is Laititia, and I am 17 years old. I currently live in the Nakivale Refugee Settlement in Uganda. My journey to Uganda began in 2022 when I arrived with my aunt and cousins. The transition was difficult, and I found myself feeling lost and without purpose. I watched as many of my peers struggled with early pregnancies and other challenges, and I feared that I would face a similar fate. The days passed slowly, and I felt my hope slipping away.
Living with my aunt was challenging, especially as her husband was violent and struggled with alcoholism. The situation became unbearable, and I had to leave their home. Fortunately, a friend welcomed me into her home, where I have been staying ever since. However, securing money for my personal needs has been a constant struggle. I desperately wanted something to occupy my time and provide me with an income, but I lacked the skills and opportunities to do so.
Everything changed when a friend introduced me to the work being done by Go Green Social Initiative. She told me about their programs in basket making, crocheting, and handcrafts, and I was immediately excited. I eagerly joined the program, hoping to learn something new and find a sense of purpose.
The experience exceeded my expectations. I quickly picked up the skills needed for basket making, and I found myself healing as I listened to the stories of others in the program. The training was not only effective but also delivered in a friendly and supportive manner. Our trainer was patient and made sure we all felt confident in our abilities.
Now, I am focused on mastering one skill that I can turn into a business. I believe this will help me generate income and respond to my personal needs as a young woman. I am incredibly proud to be part of the Go Green community, and I am deeply grateful to the donors who make this work possible. Their support has transformed my life, and I know it will continue to impact many others in Nakivale.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to learn, grow, and hope again.
